MCP Tools for Documentation
The Documentation group of the MCP Endpoint helps an AI assistant write documentation the way your team has agreed to write it. It reads the Document Profiles that define an Article's sections, collects everything known about a Resource or a C4 node, recommends the Snippets and Templates that fit, and builds profile-based Articles part by part. The group is selected by default in the AI Assistant.
- ✅ 14 tools: 8 read, 6 write
- ✅ Facts, relations, and existing Articles for a Resource or C4 node in one call
- ✅ Change impact before you edit a shared Snippet, Template, or Document Profile
The MCP Tool Reference explains the OAuth scopes, the paging rules, and the other groups. To see the group at work, follow Migrate Azure DevOps Wiki Pages to Profile-Based Articles with AI.
Understanding the Scopes in This Group
The read tools need mcp:repository.read. The write tools need both mcp:repository.read and mcp:repository.write, unlike the Article, Snippet, and Template writes in Repository Tools, which need only mcp:repository.write. Deleting a Document Profile is delete_document_profile, also in Repository Tools.

Prompts
The server also offers two MCP prompts, which are not tools: ready-made instructions that a client can start, and that bring the tools they need with them.
| Prompt | Use it to |
|---|---|
document-resource |
Document a monitored Resource |
document-c4-node |
Document a node of a C4 diagram |
In the AI Assistant, a prompt adds the tools it declares to your selection before the limit of 128 tools is checked.
