Log View General Tab
The General tab is the first of five tabs when you add or manage a Log View. It names the Log View and decides who may use it, and what they may do with the messages they find. A Log View is only useful to the people whose Roles are assigned to it, and the rights per Role decide whether they may also read message bodies, resend, or repair.

| Part | Decides | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Name, Description, Website, Tags | How users find and recognise the Log View | Name only |
| Roles | Who can open the Log View, and what they may do in it | ✅ Without a Role, nobody sees the Log View |
Name, Description, Website, and Tags
- Name - Mandatory field - A unique name is required to create a new Log View.
- Description - Optional field - A short user-friendly description of the Log View.
- Website - Optional field - A link users can click to read more, such as a runbook.
- Tags - Optional field - Group Log Views by team, environment, or process, so users can filter the list on them.

The General tab of a new Log View; the footer saves, saves and opens the Log View, saves and closes, or cancels.
Roles
Only users in the assigned Roles see and use the Log View. For a new Log View, the Roles in the DefaultRolesInViews System Parameter are pre-selected.

Animated walkthrough: add a Role and set its rights, from the Roles card and back.
- In the Roles card, click Edit, filter the All tab, and tick the Role.
- On the Selected tab, set each right to Allow, Deny, or Inherited. A Role you add starts with Access and View Transformed at Allow. Deny wins over an Allow from another Role.
- Click Confirm and close, then Save.

The rights per Role on this Log View.
What each right allows, and the System Parameters that Resend and Repair also need, is described in the Permission Set for Log Views. Every action users take with these rights is recorded in the Log Audits.
Tip
Give each audience its own Log View: one Role, the Message Types it needs, and the rights it needs. A support team that resends messages and a business team that only reads them are two Log Views.
