Log Agents Overview

The Nodinite Log Agents Overview gives you full control over all Log Agents in your integration landscape. Every logged event names the Log Agent that sent it, so a well-named, well-described list of Log Agents is what lets you and your users tell event sources apart in Log Views.

  • ✅ Instantly filter and find any Log Agent by name or Log Agent Value Id
  • ✅ Add, edit, delete, or restore Log Agents with ease
  • ✅ Map Log Status Codes per Log Agent for business-friendly status
  • ✅ Quickly spot and rename auto-created Log Agents

Tip

What is a Nodinite Log Agent? You are just one click away from knowing just that.

Understanding Log Agents

A Log Agent is the registered source of Log Events. Events reach the Log API from a ready-made Logging Agent or from your own code through Asynchronous Logging; each event carries a Log Agent Value Id that matches one entry in this list.

Find the Log Agents Overview

The Log Agents Overview is in the Log Management section of the Administration menu (Log Management). Use the Nodinite Log Views to search for data from the Log Agents.

Log Agents are part of the Logging topic and are a key feature of Nodinite. Read What is a Log Agent? to understand the basic concepts before continuing.

The overview has a sortable list of defined Log Agents. Narrow an extensive list by typing in the Filter the result box, or filter on the Log Agent Value.

Manage Log Agents

The available functionalities for managing Log Agents are:

Add new Log Agent

To create a new Log Agent, click the Add Log Agent button to open the Log Agent editor. Nodinite also creates a Log Agent automatically, named Not Set, when the first event with an unknown Log Agent Value Id arrives; rename it.

The Add Log Agent button opens an empty Log Agent form.

Edit Log Agent

To Edit an existing Log Agent, click the link in the Name column, or open the Action menu and click Edit.

New 7.10 Two menu items show the Log Agent in a diagram:

  • Show in Mapify opens the Log Agent in Mapify, the interactive map of your integration landscape (see Mapify Rendering). Requires Nodinite 7.10 or later with a Mapify license.
  • Show in Mermaid shows the Log Agent as a Mermaid diagram (see Mermaid Rendering).

The Log Agent editor has the same two choices as Mapify and Mermaid buttons in its header.

Add C4 Diagrams

The Add C4 Diagrams button, next to Add Log Agent, starts the wizard that generates C4 Diagram Sets from BizTalk Applications. The wizard reads the BizTalk applications that the BizTalk Log Agent already reports and turns them into C4 Diagrams in a C4 Diagram Set.

The button appears only when both of these are true:

  • At least one BizTalk Log Agent exists in the list.
  • Mapify is available: Nodinite 7.10.x or later New 7.10, with a Mapify license.

Generating diagrams requires the Create permission in the Permission Set for C4 Diagram Sets. The wizard is the same one users start from From BizTalk Application in the Diagram Sets menu.

Frequently asked questions / Troubleshooting

You can create, edit, and delete Log Agents using the Nodinite Web Client.

How do I create a new Log Agent?

Follow the steps in Add or Manage Log Agent.

Why is there a Log Agent named Not Set?

Nodinite created it automatically when events arrived with a Log Agent Value Id that had no entry yet. Edit it and give it a descriptive name, see Add or manage Log Agents.
