Monitor View Customize Columns Tab

The Customize Columns tab is the last of four tabs when you add or manage a Monitor View. It decides which columns users see for each Resource in the Monitor View, in what order, and under which names. An operations team reads a view faster when the column it acts on, such as the error code or the Application, sits next to the state.

Pick the columns Name, Status Code, and Error Code, drag Status Code first, rename Name to Resource, then save and show the Monitor View, animated walkthrough (7.12)
Animated walkthrough: three columns, your order, your names, and the view that users get.

  1. Open the Customize columns tab of the Monitor View (Contoso: Orders) and choose Manual configuration.
  2. Click Edit columns. Customize Columns for Monitor View opens on All (8).
  3. Tick Name, Status Code, and Error Code, then open the Selected tab.
  4. Drag Status Code to the top.
  5. Tick Artifact Renaming and show Name as Resource.
  6. Click Confirm and close. The tab lists Status Code, Resource (with the badge Name), and Error Code.
  7. Click Save and show. The Monitor View opens with what you just saved: the columns you picked, in that order, with Name shown as Resource.

Three ways to set the columns: the default, your own selection, or a reusable Display Field Configuration.

Default The standard columns are enough
Manual configuration This view needs its own columns, order, or names
Existing configuration Several views should show the same columns; see Display Field Configurations

Default columns

Default uses the columns Nodinite shows out of the box: Status Code, Name, Monitoring Agent, Category, Application, and Log Text. On the Monitor View, Status Code shows as the column of state icons.

Pick, order, and rename columns

  1. Choose Manual configuration and click Edit columns. Customize Columns for Monitor View opens.
  2. On the All tab, tick the columns to show. The Selected tab lists them.
  3. Drag the rows on the Selected tab by their handle to set the order.
  4. Tick Artifact Renaming and type a name to show a column under your own name. The renamed column keeps its original name as a small badge.
  5. Click Confirm and close (or Confirm to stay in the dialog), then Save.

The All tab offers eight columns, each a Resource field: Application, Category, Description, Error Code, Log Text, Monitoring Agent, Name, and Status Code. It also has a Display Field Type filter and Include deleted.

Reuse a Display Field Configuration

Choose Existing configuration and pick a Display Field Configuration. The list offers only configurations made for Monitor Views; those made for Log Views aren't offered. Change the columns in the configuration, and every Monitor View that uses it follows.
