Get started now: How to Add or Manage Monitoring Agent user guide.
The Monitoring Agent Overview in the Monitor Management menu is where a Nodinite Administrator manages installed and configured Monitoring Agents.
Monitoring Agents are part of the Monitoring concept and a key feature of Nodinite. Make sure to read the 'What is a Monitoring Agent' user guide and understand the basic concepts before continuing.
Understanding Monitoring Agents and Their Configuration
A Monitoring Agent is a service you install close to the systems it watches. Nodinite knows about it through a Monitoring Agent Configuration, an entry on this page that tells the Monitoring Service where the agent is and how to authenticate. The Monitoring Service polls each agent and turns what it reports into Resources, Applications, and Categories.
The Monitoring Service (orange) uses one Monitoring Agent Configuration per installed agent (teal) to reach it, on the same host or on any other host.
| Component | Role | Where you manage it |
|---|---|---|
| Monitoring Agent | Windows Service (or cloud-hosted agent) that collects state from the monitored system | Install per the agent's own Getting started pages under Logging and Monitoring |
| Monitoring Agent Configuration | Name, Service URL, polling interval, authentication key, timeouts | Add or manage Monitoring Agent |
| Remote Configuration | What the agent monitors: connections, thresholds, Environment, Log Level | Remote Configuration |
| Monitoring Service | Polls agents, evaluates state, pushes alerts from Monitor Views | Monitoring Service |
Note
New 7.x Agents installed on the same server as Nodinite register themselves during installation. Add a configuration manually only for agents installed on a remote server. See Add or manage Monitoring Agent.
The Monitoring Agents List
In the Monitoring Agent Overview you will find a sortable list of defined Monitoring Agents to manage. An extensive list of Monitoring Agents can swiftly be narrowed down to target by typing characters into the filter text box.
