Add or Manage Category

Categories are automatically populated and synced from Resources. The Category Name is read-only — it is derived from the source system by the Monitoring Agent and cannot be changed in Nodinite. The only property you configure manually is the Link.

Example editing a Category entry.

Category Name

The Category Name is set automatically by the Monitoring Service when it syncs Resources from a Monitoring Agent. The value reflects the technical type of the resource in the source platform:

  • A BizTalk Agent uses names like Send Ports, Receive Locations, Orchestrations
  • An Azure Logic Apps Agent uses Logic App
  • An Azure Service Bus Agent uses Service Bus Queue, Service Bus Topic
  • A Windows Agent uses Windows Services, Scheduled Tasks

Some Monitoring Agents support custom Category names configured in the agent settings — check the individual agent documentation to see whether custom naming is available.

Note

Every Resource is assigned exactly one Category. If a Resource has no Category it will not appear in Category-filtered Monitor Views. In practice all Resources discovered by a Monitoring Agent are assigned a Category automatically.

The Link property is the only field you can set on a Category. Use it to point end-users to external documentation, a runbook, or any relevant web page for the type of resource represented by this Category.

When a Link is configured, the Category name becomes clickable inside Monitor Views and displays an icon to indicate the external reference.

Link feature

Good candidates for the Link field:

  • Microsoft documentation for the resource type (e.g. Azure Logic Apps docs)
  • Internal runbook for handling errors in this resource type
  • Monitoring best practices guide for the technology
  • Team wiki page covering operational procedures
