AI - System Parameter
New 7.4.0
The AI System Parameter is a JSON value with feature flags that turn the in-product AI surfaces of the Nodinite Web Client on or off: the AI Assistant chat, the AI Assistance tab in Diagram Assistance, and the BizTalk-specific AI workflows. Start with Set up AI Assistant and MCP Endpoint for the full AI setup.

Example of the AI System Parameter in the Web Client, with one JSON value holding all AI feature flags.
How It Works
Each flag controls one AI surface. A flag that is missing from the JSON counts as false. The AI surfaces also need an AI provider; configure Provider, Model Name, Endpoint, and API Key once in AI Assistant.
Which Flag Controls What
| Capability | Flag | Also required |
|---|---|---|
| AI Assistant chat widget in the Web Client | EnableMcpChat |
AI provider configuration |
| AI Assistance tab in Diagram Assistance for C4 Diagrams | EnableDiagramAiAssistance |
AI provider configuration; Architecture Diagrams available in the environment |
| BizTalk MCP tools and BizTalk C4 generation (BizTalk and MCP Endpoint) | EnableAiForBizTalk |
Administrator Role; BizTalk data in the environment |
| Built-in Suggestions, Coverage, and Review Impacts in Diagram Assistance | None | Always available, also without AI |
What It Does Not Control
The AI System Parameter does not register external MCP clients such as VS Code, Claude Desktop, or Cline, and it does not choose their AI model. External clients always need their own setup in MCP Endpoint (and MCP Endpoint External Access for access from outside the server); EnableMcpChat and EnableDiagramAiAssistance are not needed for them. BizTalk questions from an external client need both that setup and EnableAiForBizTalk.
Value Format
| Property | Type | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
EnableMcpChat |
boolean | false |
true shows the AI Assistant chat widget in the Web Client. |
EnableDiagramAiAssistance |
boolean | false |
true shows the AI Assistance tab in Diagram Assistance for Architecture Diagrams and C4 Diagrams. |
EnableAiForBizTalk |
boolean | false |
true enables BizTalk MCP capability discovery, BizTalk environment and application tools, and the administrator BizTalk C4 generation. |
Example that turns on the chat and the diagram AI, but not the BizTalk AI workflows:
{"EnableMcpChat":true,"EnableDiagramAiAssistance":true,"EnableAiForBizTalk":false}
Note
Future Nodinite versions can add more AI feature flags to this same JSON value.
Frequently Asked Questions
I enabled EnableMcpChat but the chat widget is not visible
Check that an AI provider is configured in AI Assistant, that your user has permission to use the AI Assistant, and reload the browser page (Ctrl+F5).
I enabled EnableDiagramAiAssistance but AI Assistance is not visible
The flag does not turn on Architecture Diagrams by itself, and it uses the same AI provider as the chat. Open Diagram Assistance from a Diagram Set or the C4 Designer; the flag adds AI nowhere else.
I enabled EnableAiForBizTalk but the BizTalk tools are still unavailable
The BizTalk workflows are for administrators, need active BizTalk data in the environment, and, from an external client, the MCP Endpoint setup. See BizTalk and MCP Endpoint.
