AvailabilityGroupBackupPath - System Parameter
AvailabilityGroupBackupPath is the network share that the Logging Service uses when it creates a new Log Database on a SQL Server Always On Availability Group (AOAG). The backup written there lets the secondary replicas restore the new database. It is one of the System Parameters applied in How a new Log Database is created.

| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Key | AvailabilityGroupBackupPath |
| Data type | string (UNC path) |
| Default | Empty; no installer sets it |
| Read by | Logging Service, only when it creates a Log Database on an Always On Availability Group |
| Takes effect | Within about 15 seconds; no restart needed. Applies to the next Log Database the Logging Service creates. |
| Status | ✅ Active |
| Since | Nodinite 7.2.0 (also used in Nodinite 6; not used in 7.1.0) |
How It Works
- On a standalone SQL Server instance or a failover cluster, nothing reads this parameter; leave it empty.
- When the Log Databases are in an Always On Availability Group, set it on that environment in the Web Client; see Manage System Parameters. If the share is unreachable, the Logging Service can't create new Log Databases there.
- Log Databases in an availability group also need LogDatabaseRecovery set to
FULL.
Nodinite Agents with their own databases have their own backup path setting, described in each agent's documentation.
Value Format
A UNC path to a folder on a network share:
\\HighAvailFileServer\NodiniteBackups\Production
Choosing a Value
Share Requirements
- Every node in the availability group can reach the share.
- The share is highly available, for example on a clustered file server, so it doesn't become a single point of failure.
- The network between the nodes and the share is fast enough for backup and restore of a new, still small Log Database.
- The share has room for the backups.
Permissions
- The Logging Service account needs read, write, and create (subfolders) permissions on the share.
- The SQL Server service accounts on all nodes in the availability group also need access, because they read and write the backup files.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I verify the configuration?
- Open the parameter in the Web Client and check the UNC path; see Manage System Parameters.
- Test that every availability group node can reach the share.
- Check the share permissions for the Logging Service account and the SQL Server service accounts.
