How It Works
Nodinite saves a backup of each Monitoring Agent's configuration on a schedule; see the Configuration Backups tab for how backups are created, downloaded, and restored.
The Monitoring Service cleans up old configuration backups once a day, and once right after it starts. During the cleanup, it deletes backups older than DaysToKeepMonitorAgentBackups days, with two exceptions that are always kept:
- The 10 newest backups of each Monitoring Agent, however old they are.
- Every pinned backup. A pinned backup is never removed by the cleanup.
Use Edit Pin & Comment on the Configuration Backups tab to pin a backup you want to keep, and add a comment so others know why you kept it.
Choosing a Value
- Keep the default backup retention of
90days unless your audit or change-management routines need a longer history of agent configurations. - A lower value saves storage but shortens how far back you can restore. Because the 10 newest backups per agent are always kept, even a low value leaves you something to restore.
- Pin the backups you must keep beyond the retention period (for example, the configuration before a major change) instead of raising the value for every agent.
