Tools Sidebar Menu Item

The Tools menu gathers the administrator's everyday helpers in the Nodinite Web Client: see what is installed, find out who did what, tell users about planned work, and restore configuration.

Teal: tools available in the Tools menu. Yellow: Import / Export, disabled in Nodinite 7.x and not in the menu. Purple: Show deleted records, a checkbox in many lists rather than a menu item.

Common Administrative Tasks

Check the installation

Open the Nodinite Overview before and after an update, and when a component doesn't connect. It shows each component's version and whether it is reachable. Compare agent versions with the latest releases in Download and Update Agents.

Investigate who did what

Use Log Audit Search to see who changed a configuration, removed an Alarm Queue entry, or restored a deleted record. Log Audit records are kept for the number of days in DaysToKeepLogAudits (default 90).

Announce planned maintenance

Create a User Notification of type Maintenance for the affected Monitor Views. Users see the message on the Dashboard, alerts are muted during the window, and the state is compared at the end. Don't confuse it with the MaintenanceMode System Parameter, which is a Web API flag.

Undo a deletion

Check Show Deleted in the list, open the Action menu of the deleted record, and choose Restore; see Show deleted records. Changes to relationships and settings can't be undone this way, because Nodinite doesn't version configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I move configuration between environments?

Import / Export is disabled in Nodinite 7.x and isn't on the Tools menu. Use the Web API to export and import data between instances for now.

Can I track who made changes to my configuration?

Yes. Log Audit Search records sensitive operations by Users and by the system itself, and the feature can't be disabled. Search by date, operation, user, level, or function.

How do I alert people when something breaks?

Not with the Tools menu: alerts come from Monitor Views through Alarm Plugins. Undelivered alerts wait in the Alarm Queue. User Notifications only inform users and mute alerts during maintenance.
