Manage Custom Metadata

Custom Metadata fields describe the entities in the Repository Model: owners, SLA levels, contacts, diagrams, and files. Every field you add shows up on the entities it is scoped to, so a tidy list of fields keeps the documentation easy to fill in and easy to trust. This page shows how to keep the Custom Metadata list clean and correct.

  • ✅ Add and edit Custom Metadata fields
  • ✅ Delete Custom Metadata fields, and restore them if you change your mind
  • ✅ Export fields and copy the API URL for reports and scripts

On this page, an administrator, or a user whose Role may modify Custom Metadata, learns to manage the Custom Metadata list. Business users who only look up Custom Metadata start with the Custom Metadata Overview instead.

Understanding delete and restore

Delete in Nodinite is a soft delete: the Custom Metadata field is flagged as deleted and hidden from the list, but it stays in the database, so you can restore it. See Show deleted records for how this works across Nodinite.

Who can do what

Action Who can do it Can you undo it?
Add a Custom Metadata field Create on Custom Metadata in the Role ✅ Yes, delete it
Edit a Custom Metadata field Modify on Custom Metadata (Permission Set for the Repository Model) ⚠️ Change it back by hand
Delete a Custom Metadata field Modify on Custom Metadata ✅ Yes, restore it
Restore a Custom Metadata field Modify on Custom Metadata ✅ Yes, delete it again

Everything on this page also works from the Repository menu for users whose Roles allow it; the Administration menu needs the built-in Administrator Role.

Every right is set per Role on its Repository Permissions tab. Users first need the global Access right on Repository (Repository Access), then Access on the Custom Metadata row; Create and Modify sit on the Custom Metadata Permissions for all row. A Deny in any of the user's Roles always wins.

Find the Custom Metadata list

Open Administration > CMDB Attributes > Custom Metadata, or Repository > Custom Metadata. From Administration, clicking a Custom Metadata field opens it for editing; from Repository, it opens it for viewing. Filter and sort the list as described in the Custom Metadata Overview.
