Manage Domains
Domains are the organizational boundaries, such as departments, business units, or teams, that form the swimlanes of your Business Process Models (BPMs). One Domain can be reused across many BPMs, so a wrong or duplicate Domain shows up everywhere. This page shows how to keep the Domain list clean and correct.
- ✅ Add and edit Domains
- ✅ Delete Domains you no longer use
- ✅ Restore deleted Domains if you change your mind
On this page, an administrator, or a user whose Role may modify Domains, learns to manage the Domain list. Business users who only look up Domains start with the Domain Overview instead.
Understanding delete and restore
Delete in Nodinite is a soft delete: the Domain is flagged as deleted and hidden from the list, but it stays in the database, so you can restore it. If a deleted Domain is used in a BPM, that swimlane shows as missing until the Domain is restored. See Show deleted records for how this works across Nodinite.

A Domain's life after Delete. Green: active. Yellow: deleted, and anyone who may modify Domains can restore it. While a Domain is deleted, the BPM swimlanes that use it show as missing. See Show deleted records.
Who can do what
| Action | Who can do it | Can you undo it? |
|---|---|---|
| Add a Domain | Create on Domains in the Role | ✅ Yes, delete it |
| Edit a Domain | Modify on Domains (Permission Set for the Repository Model) | ⚠️ No version history; change it back by hand |
| Delete a Domain | Modify on Domains | ✅ Yes, restore it |
| Restore a Domain | Modify on Domains | ✅ Yes, delete it again |
These actions also work from the Repository menu for users whose Role allows it; the Administration menu needs the built-in Administrator Role.
Every right is set per Role on its Repository Permissions tab. Users first need the global Access right on Repository (Repository Access), then Access on the Domains row; Create and Modify sit on the Domains Permissions for all row. A Deny in any of the user's Roles always wins.
