Search log events from a BPM

Start from the business process, not from a list of Log Views. New 7.11 From a Business Process Model (BPM) you search the logged events of that process and see them plotted on the BPM itself, on one page.

  • ✅ Search a business process straight from the BPM Overview
  • ✅ Type the value you look for, such as an order number, with no operators to set up
  • ✅ See exactly which step the order reached, and which one failed, right on the BPM

When you need this

You know which business process an order belongs to, say Order-to-Cash, and you want to see how far one order got through its steps. You don't want to look for the right Log View first.

What you need

  • Access to the BPM and to at least one Log View your Role can use. Your administrator can limit a BPM to a few Log Views; see Add or manage BPM.
  • The value to search for, such as an order number. The fields you can search on are the Search Fields of the Log View.

Do it

  1. Open the BPM Overview from the Repository menu, and click the Log Search button under the BPM's name. BPM Log Search opens in a new page.

The Log Search button sits under each BPM name.
  2. Choose the Log View to search in. If the BPM is limited to some Log Views, Searching in already holds one of them; switch if you need another. If it isn't, choose any Log View your role can use in Select a Log View.

Select a Log View list shown when the BPM is not limited to any Log View (7.11)
A BPM that is not limited lets you choose from the Log Views your role can use.
  3. In Search criteria, type the value, for example the Order Number. Need And/Or or another operator? Turn on Advanced mode; it works as in a Log View.
  4. Set the date range and click Search.

What you'll see

One match

When one group of events matches, such as one order, it's plotted straight away and the page scrolls to the BPM Viewer. The list shows each logged event, and the same steps light up on the BPM in their status color, so the failed step stands out. The counters show the number of Events, the Duration, and the Services involved.

The order reached Confirmation Sent, which failed (red); the earlier steps succeeded.

Expand an event to see its details, the same as in a Log View. If your administrator has set up Search Field Links, click a value such as the Order Number to open the order in another system.

Click Adjust search to change the criteria, or Re-search to run the same search again.

Several matches

When several groups match, the result says how many, for example 20 groups found. Click the group you want to plot it on the BPM.

Choose a group, here by Application interchange id, to show its events on the BPM.

Arrange the page

Rotate the list and the BPM to stack them, or tuck the search away to the side to give the BPM the whole screen. Drag the dividers to resize.

Stacked suits a narrower screen, or a BPM with many steps.

The rotate button at the top tucks the search away to the side.

Need more? A lightbulb on each Service shows the health of the systems behind it, with Remote Actions if your role allows; see Integrated Monitoring. The Timer repeats the search while you wait for new events; see Repeat the search with the Timer.

If it doesn't work

  • No Log View to choose: your role can't use any Log View, or none of the BPM's. Ask your Nodinite administrator.
  • The result is empty: widen the date range, check the value, or pick another Log View.
  • Still stuck? See Support.
