Add images, files, and links to an Article
A screenshot of the right button, the recovery checklist, and a link to the related runbook save the reader minutes. In a Nodinite Article you pick them from shared libraries, so each image and file is stored once and every reference keeps working in Test and Production.
- ✅ Insert an image from the Image Library at the size you want
- ✅ Link a shared PDF, spreadsheet, or schema from the File Library
- ✅ Link to other Articles, so readers can jump between them

Animated walkthrough: search the Image Library, pick an image and its size, and insert it at the cursor.
When you need this
Your Article explains a procedure, and a screenshot, a document, or a related Article would make it clearer than more text.
What you need
- An Article open in the editor; see Write a knowledge base Article.
- The image or file in the library, or upload it from the picker with Upload New. New to the libraries? See Images Overview and Files Overview.
Do it
The three buttons are in the WYSIWYG toolbar of an HTML Article, and above the content area of a Markdown Article. They're also in the editor's right-click menu. Each opens a picker and inserts at the cursor.

In an HTML Article: 1 Insert Image from Library, 2 Insert File from Library, 3 Insert Article Link.

In a Markdown Article, the same three buttons above the content area.
Insert an image
- Place the cursor and click Insert Image from Library.
- Search by name, title, description, or alt text, or filter by tag, and click the image.
- On the right, check the details. Alt Text Override starts empty and shows the image's own alt text as a placeholder: leave it blank to keep that text, or type an override for this insertion only.
- Choose a Size: Original (the image's own size, never wider than the Article), or xxs 64 px, xs 128 px, s 256 px, m 384 px (the default), l 512 px, xl 768 px, xxl 1024 px. A fixed size is never wider than the place it sits in: in a narrower column, an xl or xxl image is scaled down to fit. The source image isn't changed.

Browse on the left; details, alt text, and size on the right. - Click Insert.
Insert a file
Use the File Library for a reusable PDF, Word document, spreadsheet, JSON or XML example, or ZIP package, instead of attaching a copy to each Article.
- Click Insert File from Library, and search for the file.

The file picker lists the shared files you can insert. - Click the file. Change Display Text if the link should read differently, then click Select.

Display Text becomes the link label in the Article. - Click Save. In the reader, the link has a file icon in front, and clicking it opens the file in a new browser tab.

Animated walkthrough: pick the file, change its Display Text, save, and click the link in the reader to open the PDF in a new tab.
Nodinite stores a portable {ndf} reference to the file's name, for example [Recovery checklist]({ndf}/int001-orders-recovery-checklist), instead of a fixed address, so the link works in every environment that has the file, and follows it when it's updated. Your administrator decides which file types are allowed and how they open with SharedFilePolicy. Keep Attachment uploads for files that belong to one entity only.
Link to another Article
- Place the cursor and click Insert Article Link.
- Filter by title or tag, and click Use on the Article to link. The link goes in at once. The Article you are editing is listed too, marked This Article, with Use disabled: an Article can't link to itself.

Click Use to insert the link. - Click Save. In the reader, clicking the link opens the linked Article in the same tab.

Animated walkthrough: filter on the tag orders, click Use, save, and click the link in the reader to open the linked Article.
The link points at the other Article's slug, so renaming that Article doesn't break it.
What you'll see
The image, file link, or Article link appears at the cursor. Readers click a file link to open the file in a new browser tab, and an Article link to open that Article on its own page; browse everything from the Articles list.
If it doesn't work
- The image or file isn't in the picker. Click Upload New in the picker, or ask whoever manages the Image Library or File Library.
- You want to type the reference yourself. In the Image Library, Copy Reference in an image's Action menu copies its
{ndi}token; paste it into a Markdown Article, for example. - A file type is refused. Your administrator sets the allowed types in SharedFilePolicy.
You can also attach an Article to a node in a C4 Diagram: in the designer, open the node's Node Properties > Articles, so it opens from the architecture view.
