Uninstalling the Nodinite Azure Monitoring Agent

Use this guide to safely uninstall the Nodinite Azure agent. Remove the agent with the Portal-based PowerShell script in v7, or with the installer or the Windows 'Add or Remove Programs' feature in legacy v6. Follow these steps to avoid common pitfalls and ensure a clean removal.

  • ✅ Remove the agent using the Portal-based script or familiar Windows tools
  • ✅ Prevent unnecessary alerts by cleaning up configurations first
  • ✅ Access troubleshooting tips for a smooth uninstall experience
  • ✅ Get direct support if you encounter issues

Understanding the Uninstall Process

The agent is more than a program on a server: Nodinite also holds a Monitoring Agent configuration for it, and the agent publishes Resources (subscriptions, Resource Groups, Functions, Web Jobs, Storage, and other Azure services) that your Monitor Views use. Remove the Nodinite side first, then the program.

Method Nodinite version Status
Portal-based PowerShell script v7 ✅ Recommended
Add or Remove Programs, or the MSI file v6 ⚠️ Legacy, deprecated

Nodinite version 7

Preferred Method: Portal-Based PowerShell Script

In Nodinite v7, the Portal-based PowerShell scripts automate agent uninstallation. This modern approach:

  • ✅ Automates agent removal via PowerShell commands
  • ✅ Removes multiple agents simultaneously with consistent settings
  • ✅ Eliminates manual uninstallation steps and reduces human error
  • ✅ Centrally manages uninstallation from the Portal

The scripts come from the same Portal workflow as Install Nodinite v7 and Update Nodinite v7.

Info

Remove the Monitoring Agents and applicable Resources from Monitor Views before you uninstall the agent using Portal-based scripts or the v6 method below.

Nodinite version 6 (Add or Remove Programs - Legacy)

Warning

The Add or Remove Programs uninstallation method for Nodinite v6 is deprecated and will be retired. Upgrade to Nodinite v7 for the modern Portal-based scripted uninstallation experience.

  1. Use Add or Remove Programs
  2. Run the MSI

If you uninstall the agent without first removing the Monitoring Agents, users receive error alerts. The Monitoring Agent Configuration also appears as unavailable in the list of Monitoring Agents.

This example shows an uninstalled and unavailable Monitoring Agent:

Before You Uninstall

Important

Remove Nodinite configurations BEFORE uninstalling the agent to prevent continuous error alerts for all users.

Required Configuration Changes

Before clicking Uninstall, complete these steps in the Web Client:

  1. Remove Resources – Delete all Resources monitored by this agent
  2. Remove Monitoring Agent Configuration – Delete the agent from Monitoring Agents (Add or manage a Monitoring Agent Configuration)
  3. Update Monitor Views – Remove this agent, and filters by Category or Application for its Resources, from all Monitor Views (Add or manage Monitor View)
  4. Review the App Registration (optional) – If no other Nodinite agent uses it, remove the App Registration or its role assignments as described in Azure Application Access

What Happens If You Skip This?

  • ❌ Users receive continuous error alerts – "Monitoring agent unavailable"
  • ❌ Agent appears broken in the Monitoring Agents list
  • ❌ Monitor Views display errors for the missing agent
  • ❌ Cleanup requires manual intervention across all views
