Why Choose Nodinite BPM Over Azure Business Process Tracking?

Unlock the full potential of business process monitoring and end-to-end tracking with Nodinite BPM. This page reveals why Nodinite BPM delivers unmatched flexibility, business value, and operational insight compared to Microsoft Azure Business Process Tracking.

On this page, you'll discover:

  • No upfront binding to workflows—model processes as your business evolves
  • Built-in monitoring and remote actions on every BPM step
  • Full access to message payloads for auditing, compliance, and troubleshooting
  • Multiple BPM views on the same log data for role-specific insights
  • Flexible correlation with multi-value IDs for true business-level tracking
  • Cross-platform logging and monitoring, even in hybrid/multi-cloud environments
  • Schema-free workflow changes without data loss
  • Retroactive BPM modeling and reindexing for forensic analysis
  • Built-in Domain knowledge tracking for business and IT stakeholders

✅ No Upfront Binding to Workflows

Nodinite BPM requires no upfront binding to predefined workflows or schemas. You can model and evolve your business processes as needed, reducing development overhead and enabling agile, real-world tracking.

  • Workflow definitions can evolve over time
  • Tracking logic is decoupled from message flows
  • Late binding and discovery of process events is possible

With Azure Business Process Tracking, you must define your business process in advance and map each stage to operations in a Standard Logic App workflow before you deploy the tracking profile (Azure Business Process Tracking overview). This limits agility and makes changes more difficult. Without a defined and mapped process, there is nothing to track and no meaningful business process visualization.

With Nodinite, a Service's Transport Contracts can be added or revised at any time, and the binding of events to BPM steps is resolved when the BPM is displayed. Events logged earlier show on a step as soon as the binding exists.

All a BPM needs is Log Events in Nodinite and a key to correlate on. Depending on the source, developers may need to add logging to get events into Nodinite, but nothing in that logging is BPM-specific. Azure Business Process Tracking records only transactions that run after the business process and its tracking profile are deployed.

Built-in Monitoring and Remote Actions on Every BPM Step

This is the biggest difference. Azure Business Process Tracking is a tracking feature: it records transactions and business properties, but it doesn't monitor the resources that process them. In Nodinite, monitoring is part of the same platform as logging and BPM:

  • Each Service in a BPM has a lightbulb that shows the worst state of the monitored Resources bound to it, whatever Monitoring Agent watches them; see Integrated Monitoring
  • From a failed step, open the lightbulb and run Remote Actions such as start, stop, enable, or disable, depending on the agent and if your Role allows it
  • The same Resources feed Monitor Views and alerts, so the people who follow the process and the people who fix it work in one platform

Access to Full Message Payloads

Azure Business Process Tracking records the transaction ID and the business properties you map for each stage, stored in an Azure Data Explorer table; it doesn't keep the full message. With Nodinite, you get:

  • Full access to message payloads, even across systems, subject to Role permissions
  • Payloads searchable through Search Fields for as long as your log retention settings keep them
  • Powerful auditing, debugging, compliance, and downstream analysis

Multiple BPM Views on the Same Log Data

Nodinite enables multiple BPMs to consume and interpret the same set of log events, providing:

  • Role-specific process views (technical, business, operations)
  • Custom scenarios for each team—no data duplication
  • Real flexibility: same data, different lenses

In Azure Business Process Tracking, each business process is bound to its workflow operations at design time, so the tracked data serves the one process it was mapped for.

Flexible Correlation with Multi-Value IDs

Azure Business Process Tracking correlates on a single transaction ID per business process, such as an order number, that you map to workflow outputs up front. Its business properties are single-value fields: several values, such as all order numbers in a batch, must go into one field, for example as a comma-separated list.

Nodinite correlates on a key that every event of the interchange carries (a Log View can group by up to four fields), and Search Fields extract distinct values, several per message if needed:

  • Order numbers in a batch
  • Invoice + PO + Delivery references
  • Domain-specific identifiers

Because Nodinite keeps the payload, you can add or change a Search Field Expression after a schema change and re-index the events already logged.

Cross-Platform Logging Support

Nodinite BPM is platform-agnostic, capable of processing and correlating events from virtually any source:

  • Azure Services (Logic Apps, Service Bus, Functions)
  • BizTalk Server
  • Mulesoft
  • WCF/SOAP services, through the WCF Diagnostics Tracing logger (configuration, not code)
  • Custom APIs, files, databases, and more

This ensures end-to-end visibility, even in hybrid or multi-cloud environments. Azure Business Process Tracking currently supports only Standard Logic Apps with stateful workflows.

Workflow Changes Without Data Loss

Azure Business Process Tracking is hard-wired to the workflow operations and the tracking profile you mapped. A change to the workflow can disrupt tracking, and transactions that don't match aren't tracked; that can't be repaired afterwards. Nodinite binds late, so you can change the configuration after the data is logged:

  • Schema-free changes to BPM definitions
  • Fixes to process mismatches after the event has happened
  • No data loss due to changed process steps or structure

Reindexing: Create New Views on Old Data

One of Nodinite’s superpowers is its reindexing capability:

  • Re-index Search Fields over historical events, and draw new BPMs over events already logged
  • No need to replay messages or reprocess flows
  • Enables forensic analysis, audit trails, and retrospective tracking

Preserve Domain Knowledge Over Time

Nodinite is not just about technical tracking—it’s a business process modeling tool that:

  • Captures organizational knowledge (OU ownership, responsibilities)
  • Tracks where in the process an issue occurred
  • Provides rich contextual data beyond just the technical trace

This makes it a powerful platform for both IT and business stakeholders.

Log Views: Visualize and Act on Every Process

Nodinite Log Views are a core part of BPM visualization and operational excellence. Log Views allow you to:

  • Group events by up to four fields (Search Fields from payload or context, or built-in Log Event fields) and filter on Repository context such as Integrations and Systems; see Add or Manage Log View
  • See the real-time state and history of every process step, with milestone-based logging
  • Drill down into message payloads, errors, and audit trails directly from the Log View
  • Open the BPM to check the health of the services behind a failed step and take remote actions on their resources—without switching tools
  • Empower business and IT users to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize processes without technical barriers

Log Views bridge the gap between technical logging and business process insight. They provide actionable, role-specific dashboards that make it easy to track, analyze, and improve your business operations.

Example: A BPM in a grouped Log View shows milestone-based logging, providing a clear overview of the process state and history.

Cost and Total Cost of Ownership

Azure Business Process Tracking stores tracking data in Azure Data Explorer (ADX)—a separate service with its own retention and cost. Business Process Tracking itself is currently free, but the ADX cluster you must provide is billed (Azure Business Process Tracking pricing information). Combined with Log Analytics, run history storage, and Application Insights, the same integration event may be billed across several Azure tiers.

Nodinite BPM reuses the same already-collected integration data for process visibility, monitoring, and long-term storage—no additional pipelines or storage tiers required.
